All clear given after bomb threat at Hampton courthouses

HAMPTON, Va. – Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a bomb threat that happened Tuesday morning.

Officers were called to the General District Courthouse in the 200 block of North King Street around 8:15 a.m. on a report of a potential bomb threat.

According to police, an unknown suspect contacted the court and indicated an alleged threat to the General District Courthouse.

Hampton Police Officers and members of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, and evacuated the General District Courthouse, Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, and the Circuit Court.

A sweep of the courthouses was completed and there were no suspicious devices located.

Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue, Hampton Sheriff’s Office, Newport News Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit, and the Department of Homeland Security also responded to assist.

The criminal investigation into the threat is on-going.

Threatening to Bomb is a class 5 felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
