VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit received protective vests by the Atlantic K-9 Vest Fund on Thursday.

The vests were donated and are valued at about $1,200 each.

They will protect the dogs in the event of a stabbing or shooting.

The vests were custom-fitted for the dogs and weigh less than seven pounds each.

The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was established in 2014.

There are two K-9s in the unit, Candy and Roxy.

Their handlers are Deputy Jeff Lam and Deputy Aaron Whitehead.
