VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit received protective vests by the Atlantic K-9 Vest Fund on Thursday.
The vests were donated and are valued at about $1,200 each.
They will protect the dogs in the event of a stabbing or shooting.
The vests were custom-fitted for the dogs and weigh less than seven pounds each.
The Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit was established in 2014.
There are two K-9s in the unit, Candy and Roxy.
Their handlers are Deputy Jeff Lam and Deputy Aaron Whitehead.
