HAMPTON, Va. – A $3 million brewery-restaurant-concert venue is coming to the former Armory downtown.

It is expected to be open by late summer or early fall of 2017.

The 80-year-old building has been vacant for years but will be transformed to a concert venue that is expected to hold 800-1,000 people.

The convert venue will be smaller than Norfolk’s NorVa, but it will fir a niche in the music market.

Randy Thomas, who also helped develop the O’Connor Brewing site in Norfolk, knows there is asbestos, rotten wood, and damage to the building but he is hopeful the development will be successful.

The building will offer live music nightly, with local artists performing often and will have an outdoor seating area.

The King Street property sale terms were approved for the historic building on August 23.

The venue will be named “Vanguard” based on the “Virginia National Guard” above the doorway.
