OUTER BANKS, N.C. - A portion of the North Carolina coastline is in a Tropical Storm Watch as the storm system off the coast moves towards Cape Hatteras.
Dare County Emergency Manager Drew Pearson said right now they're flying red flags to warn swimmers of rip currents, but that's about it. They're advising citizens and vacationers to stay up to date on weather conditions and the local forecast.
If the Outer Banks becomes more at risk winds could reach up to 50 mph. Residents a d visitors are advised to batten down the hatches and bring outdoor property inside.
As for wave activity, surfer are looking forward to the rough surf but lifeguards warn everyone in the water to stay out of deep areas as a rip current can easily pull you out.
