PORTSMOUTH, Va. – The Coast Guard rescued three kayakers near Wachapreague Friday evening.
Watchstanders in Portsmouth were alerted around 7 p.m. that three kayakers became overwhelmed by wind and were too exhausted to paddle.
Station Wachapreague launched a 24-foot Special Purpose Craft-Shallow Water Crew from the Folley Creek boat ramp around 8 p.m.
The crew found one of the kayakers blowing a whistle between Burtons Bay and Teagles Ditch around 8:15 p.m.
The crew took the kayaker aboard the boat and directed the crew to the other two kayakers in Cedar Bay.
All three kayakers and their kayaks were brought back to Station Wachapreague just before 9 p.m.
