Henrico man sought for fleeing police in Hampton, crashing in Norfolk

HAMPTON, Va. – Virginia State Police are looking for a Henrico man who ran from a crash after a pursuit early Wednesday morning in Norfolk.

James Allen Williams, 31, was driving a Chevrolet Impala that was stopped by Hampton Police for a traffic infraction at I-64 eastbound at Armistead Avenue.

The Hampton Police officer called Virginia State Police for assistance and notified the trooper that a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.

As the officer approached the vehicle and attempted to have Williams step out for a search, Williams sped away and headed eastbound on I-64.

Hampton Police and State Police chased the vehicle into Norfolk where they were able to stop and box in the vehicle. As the trooper tried to approach the vehicle, Williams again took off and police pursued.

Speeds reached over 100 mph before Williams took the Granby Street exit towards Terminal Boulevard and lost control, crashing into the guardrail.

Williams and a passenger in the vehicle both got out of the car. The passenger surrendered to police but Williams ran away.

State Police say drugs and drug paraphernalia were found inside the car.

Williams is wanted for felony evade and elude, assault on a law enforcement officer, driving while revoked, possession of a schedule I drug, and possession of marijuana.

He has a last known address in Henrico, Virginia and is also known to go by the alias Jernardo L. Berry.
