CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Chesapeake Regional Medical Center has unveiled their new 3D Mobile Mammography Unit – a first of its kind in Hampton Roads!
The 40-foot unit will travel to communities and businesses throughout the region to offer quick appointments in a comfortable and discreet space.
The unit is equipped with both 3D and 2D technology. 3D mammography (also known as tomosynthesis) has been proven to detect breast cancer at a 27-percent higher rate than traditional 2D mammography, according to the journal Radiology.
Additionally, a study of nearly a half-million women by The American Medical Association found that 3D mammography, combined with traditional 2D mammography, increased detection rates of invasive cancers by 41-percent and reduced additional screenings by 15-percent.
