LAWRENCE, Kan. — With the debate still hours away, some just can’t wait to talk politics — prompting a Kansas police department to ask people to refrain from misusing the 911 system.

The tweet from their official account reads:

“REMINDER, We realize politics can make emotions run high, but being mad at a presidential candidate in a debate is NOT a reason to call 911.”

It’s not yet clear how many residents chose to call 911 instead of tweeting or posting on Facebook, nor what those individuals hoped the police might do for them.

In an apparent effort to head off emergency calls later this evening, Lawrence police also warned against drinking games based on the highly-anticipated debate.

Specifically, the department strongly discourages anyone drinking every time a certain candidate says “yuge.”
