A 33-year-old man drowned in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of North Carolina on Tuesday, according to The Currituck County Fire Chief.
Police have identified the swimmer as 33-year-old Brandon Bryk of Nederland, Colorado.
The man was swimming near mile post 15 in the 4×4 wheel area of South Swain’s Quarter.
The victim was swimming alone when family members noticed he was having trouble.
Beachgoers and bystanders helped to pull the man from the water around 3:21 p.m.
The man was unconscious and in cardiac arrest when he was pulled from the water.
Carova Beach and Corolla Whalehead Station crews responded to the incident and provided advanced life support care.
A Nightingale Air Ambulance was requested but the man could not be successfully resuscitated and was prounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m.
The Currituck County Fire Chief reminds swimmers that the Atlantic Ocean has been experiencing strong rip currents and above-average waves for the past few days.
People are urged to stay out of the water during dangerous conditions.
