VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Two students were approached by a stranger at a bus stop Friday morning.

According to a Virginia Beach Public Schools official the students were waiting to board their bus to Providence Elementary School.

The students were approached on Marlborough Drive by a driver in a blue pickup truck who motioned for them to come over to the vehicle.

The driver of the truck never spoke to the students, but motioned.

The students told their bus driver about the incident once they were picked up and police were then notified.

The official said there was extra patrolling in place when school let out at 2:40 p.m.

Alerts were sent to parents of Providence Elementary School to notify them about the reported incident including the following message:

This is Michael Taylor, principal at Providence Elementary School. I’m calling to let you know about an incident that took place in a neighborhood near our school this morning. Two students at a bus stop on Marlborough Drive reported that a stranger in a blue, two-door pickup truck approached their bus stop and the driver motioned for them to come closer. The driver never got out of the truck nor spoke to the children. Nonetheless, police were notified immediately and, as a precaution, will have an extra patrol car into the neighborhood at dismissal time.

I am calling this afternoon to ask students and their families to be aware of their surroundings when traveling in the area. And, as a reminder, suggest that parents accompany young students to the bus stop when possible. Thank you for partnering with us in making our school and community a safe place for children.
