Hampton Police arrest man in connection with homicide near Hampton University

HAMPTON, Va. – Police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide that occurred hear Hampton University on October 19.

20-year-old McCardeous Markell Askew, of Newport News, has been charged with one count of Attempted Robbery, one count of Maiming, two counts of Use of a Firearm in Commission of  Felony, and one count of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling.

Askew has been arrested in connection with a shooting in the first block of Mariners Cove Roadon October 19.

Kevin Neal was pronounced dead at the scene and two other male victims were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

The police investigation revealed that two suspects approached a 22-year-old victim, showed a firearm and attempted to rob the victim.

The victim then showed a firearm as well and there was an exchange of gunfire. Police say all parties were struck by gunfire in the incident.
