NORFOLK, Va. – City Council appointed Doug Smith as the interim city manager in the wake of City Manager Marcus Jones’ departure to Charlotte.
Smith is the former deputy city manager of Virginia Beach.
Jones will be the city manager in Charlotte and was Norfolk’s city manager since February 2011.
Before that, Jones worked in the city as the director of budget and grants management and as the assistant city manager from 2004 to 2009.
