PORTSMOUTH, Va. – U.S. Marshals have arrested a man in in connection to a deadly shooting that took place in Portsmouth on October 20.
Robert Lamont McClure Jr., 29, was taken into custody Thursday morning in New Jersey for the death of 28 year-old Steven A. Spruill.
On the evening of October 20, Portsmouth Police responded to the shooting in the 60 block of Dale Drive where they located Spruill suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
On October 22, Portsmouth Police obtained warrants for McClure, charging him with first degree murder and use of firearm in commission of a felony. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force was then asked for assistance in arresting McClure.
U.S. Marshals in Norfolk contacted the U.S. Marshals in Newark, New Jersey, with information that McClure may be hiding out in their area.
Thursday around 7 a.m., members of the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested McClure without incident at a home in Paterson, N.J. The Paterson Police Department also assisted with the arrest.
McClure is being held at the Passaic County Jail while awaiting return to Virginia.
