19-year-old suffering from life-threatening injuries after shooting in Newport News

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Police are investigating a shooting where that left a 19-year-old Hampton man with life threatening injuries.

Officers were called to the 2300 block of Chestnut Avenue just before 9:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, they located the victim with a single gunshot wound in the upper body area.

Newport News Police believe the victim's injuries are life threatening.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A witnesses who was with the victim at the time of the shooting told police that while the pair was walking along Chestnut Avenue they heard 7 to 10 gunshots.

The witness said the pair ran to the 2300 block of Chestnut Avenue where police and medics were called. The witness was not injured.
