WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Keith Call and Cassandra Hailey went to the movies and then stopped by a party. The next day, Keith's car was found along Colonial Parkway, but Keith and Cassandra were nowhere to be found.
That was April 1988.
Since then, Keith's family has not gotten any answers about what happened to him or Hailey. "Frustrating is what it is," said Keith's brother Doug. "The whole thing was frustrating. There was a lot of anxiety."
The case is grouped with three others, called the Colonial Parkway Murders. This fall marks 30 years since the cases began with double murder of Cathy Thomas and Becky Dowski.
Whether or not the cases are all connected isn't clear, but they've left many wondering if they're the work of a serial killer.
All the cases are unsolved, but unlike the others Keith and Cassandra have never been found. "As time went on I knew he was dead in my heart," said Keith's sister Joyce Call-Canada. She got a call the morning after her brother was last seen, telling her his car was found along the Colonial Parkway. As she drove up, she saw the police tape. "My stomach kind of sunk," she recalled. "This wasn't what I was hoping it would be."
Over the years, several theories have been floated about what may have happened to them, including that someone acting as a law enforcement was involved or an early one that the couple went skinny dipping. The family has long discredited the latter as it would've required going down a steep embankment into cold April waters.
The unknown has made things tough on family. Keith's parents died without ever getting an answer. "There would be days were I would be sitting at my home and I would be thinking, 'Look at me. I live a decent life. I have a good life, and my brother is out there," Joyce said. "I felt guilt and I felt like I have to do something."
Joyce and Doug remain active in keeping their brother's story alive. Joyce created a Facebook page dedicated to finding out what happened. With forensic testing, they're hopeful they'll one day get an answer as to what happened to them.
