Chuck Stuber (R), running for North Carolina Auditor
1. Why are you running for office?
As the State Auditor, maintaining independence is of paramount importance. Accordingly, I have tried to be very careful in responding to surveys and questionnaires to not take sides on controversial political issues, since it may compromise my ability to conduct audits in the event I am called on to audit entities that may have a stake in such issues. For example, one survey asked me for my opinion on school vouchers. If I took a public position one way or the other and was later tasked with auditing a school that had received government funds, someone could argue that I had a preexisting bias based on the position I had taken on the voucher issue.
2. Why should people vote for you?
With that said, I believe I have exceptional qualifications for the State Auditor position. I am a CPA, an attorney, and was an FBI Special Agent for over 28 years during which I specialized in white collar crime and corruption cases. I was the FBI Case Agent on the investigations which resulted in the prosecutions of North Carolina (NC) Speaker of the House Jim Black, Governor Mike Easley, and former senator and presidential candidate John Edwards along with many lesser known public officials. I am confident that my skills and experience will translate perfectly to the State Auditor position and allow me to take that office to another level in exposing fraud, wasteful spending, and corruption and protecting our tax dollars. Please check out our website at http://www.ChuckStuber.com for more information about my FBI career and my credentials for the State Auditor position. My entire professional career has been one of public service, and I truly believe I can do a great service for the citizens of North Carolina in cleaning up fraud, waste, and corruption in our state. I hope the citizens of North Carolina will give me one term to show what I can do. Four years is plenty of time to accomplish some remarkable things that will greatly benefit North Carolina. I am not a politician and have no aspirations of a long political career. I would just like the opportunity to have four years in a job where I know I can have a tremendous positive impact for our state.
12. Favorite TV Show?
My favorite TV show right now is Survivor. I’m always intrigued by the mental, physical, emotional, and social aspects that players must have to “outwit, outplay, and outlast” their opponents.
