Campaign signs are a staple of polling places everywhere, but at the polling place at Collin College’s Spring Creek campus, one of those signs drew blood on Tuesday.
“Sometimes signs are stolen, or sometimes they’re defaced,” said Collin County Election Administrator Bruce Sherbet. “This one elevates it to a different level.”
Someone set a Trump/Pence ad directly in front of a sign pointing folks to the polls – nowhere near where the rest of the campaign signs are.
“The issue that even brought somebody to look at it,” said Chief William Taylor of the Collin College Police, “was the fact that it was sitting in front of this sign and blocking the sign that directs people where to go vote.”
And when someone tried to move the Trump ad out of the way, they were cut by the razor-sharp blades that were glued underneath it.
“I’ve done this a long time,” Sherbet told NewsFix. “This is the first time I’ve seen that particular situation.”
“We came out, we looked at the sign,” Taylor said of the police response. “We’ve now taken that, of course, as evidence, and are processing it.”
While Collin College police try to figure out who placed the booby-trapped sign, we can’t help but wonder… Why???
“I have no idea,” said Taylor. “There could be any number of reasons, and I can’t speculate on that.”
What we do know, is that this is yet another bizarre happening in a really weird election.
“This’ll be my seventh presidential election as administrator,” said Sherbet. “And I don’t think I could compare it to any other one that I’ve conducted.”
But it’s not all bad.
“Voter turnout’s been extremely good in Collin County,” said the administrator. “We’re about 50% up from our all-time record turnout for the same period of time in previous elections. And we haven’t seen any other situations of this. We’re hoping it’s isolated, but it’s very unfortunate.”
Yeah, and with just six days left before Election Day, here’s hoping this isn’t a sign of what’s to come.
