volunteerpic1VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - On Coast Live we are joined by two of the trained volunteer lifesavers from the Volunteer Rescue Squads of Virginia Beach to show us CPR techniques and the new equipment they use that automates CPR to help keep victims alive in a crisis.

With nearly 1,000 volunteers, Virginia Beach has the largest volunteer-based EMS system in the nation. Ten volunteer squads make up the Virginia Beach EMS system and they they are each 501(c)3 nonprofits responsible for purchasing their own equipment, vehicles and uniforms.

Twice a year (May and November), the squads partner on a campaign to raise awareness and funds. To make a donation to one of the squad, visit LivesNeedSaving.org and click on the “Donate” button.
