NORFOLK, Va. - There has been an increase in burglaries in multiple Norfolk neighborhoods since Thanksgiving.

There have been close to 20 burglaries in the Bay View, Crossroads and Ward's Corner neighborhoods. Military housing isn't excluded either.

"Somebody went in the car, rifled through all her stuff and that was three days after she was robbed at gun point in Ward's corner," said Robert Case.

He lives in military housing off Terminal Blvd and says what happened to his wife isn't the only instance. "That Tuesday night there were six incidents we were told about on military housing," said Case.

So Case is taking extra precautions to protect himself and his family.

"I now carry a C99 Millimeter, my wife is going to be carrying a 380 automatic. If we can't count on the people who are supposed to protect us, we'll do it ourselves. I'm former army, she's active navy and we will protect our families."

Alonzo Hill said the burglaries make him anxious, but he trusts his security system.

"Kinda nervous, but we got ADT so I feel a bit safe. I feel comfortable. There's always someone home most of the time. Neighbors are always home, so I feel pretty safe," said Hill.

Both Case and Hill said they know their neighbors and if they see anything suspicious, they report it.
