NORFOLK, Va. - A man in Ocean View is taking action for the health community as he petitions for a fitness park to be built on the beach.

Robert Bess, an Ocean View native, has started a petition on change.org hoping to get enough support to bring that idea before City Council.

The petition has a goal of 100 signatures and half of that goal has been accomplished. Bess wants the park to be a 'Venice Beach-style' fitness experience with a concrete floor laid right on the beach between Greenies and the Soap and Suds.

Bess said once he reaches his goal of 100 signatures, he plans to present the idea to Norfolk City Council and ask for funding.

"I’m very serious about this, this is something I have wanted in this area for a while and the only thing stopping me was the beach wasn’t wide enough. I didn’t think it would be enough room but now that they’ve widened out the beach we can do it," said Bess who told News 3 he knows a lot of people in the Ocean View area try to stay active.
