The United States Postal Service’s “Music Icons” stamp series will soon honor British singer, songwriter and founding member of the Beatles John Lennon with a new Forever Stamp, slated for release Sept. 7.

The stamp artwork features a 1974 photo of Lennon taken by noted rock music photographer Bob Gruen for Lennon’s “Walls and Bridges” album. The stamp pane resembles a vintage 45-rpm record sleeve.

The reverse side features a photograph of Lennon at his white piano, originally taken by Peter Fordham to promote Lennon’s landmark 1971 solo album, “Imagine.”

Its release will take place at Namburg Bandshell in New York’s Central Park.
