VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Meet Virginia Beach's own Buttercup! She's competing in a national contest to be the top dog.

"She's a 1-year-old cavapoo, a cross between a Cavalier King Charles spaniel and a poodle," owner Christiana Conte said.

I found out about Buttercup when Conte emailed me about her pup, who is in the running to win the America's Favorite Pet contest.

"She's very energetic, very playful. She loves everyone — there hasn't been a soul she didn't go up to and give a kiss," Conte said.

"There you go — pose," Conte said, as Buttercup showed off for the camera.

Conte said her playful pup is made for the limelight, always striking a pose.

"She would be a star if she had the chance. You know what — let's look into that," Conte said.

She entered Buttercup in the contest, which benefits PAWS, a pet charity.

Even though the competition is tough, Buttercup is in the semifinals. Her mind, however, seems to be on other things.

"These are Oinkies," Conte said. "She loves these hearty kabobs. She's like, 'Thank you — bye-bye!'"

If Buttercup wins, she'll receive $10,000 and be the cover girl of Modern Dog magazine.

While Buttercup doesn't seem to be worried about the competition, her owner would still appreciate your support. The deadline to vote in this round is Friday, March 5. Find the link to vote below.

Win or lose, Virginia Beach native Buttercup is Positively Hampton Roads.
