HAMPTON, Va. — Food insecurity is an unfortunate reality for people across Hampton Roads, but you can help make a difference.

On September 29 at 6:30 p.m., the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank is hosting its largest annual fundraiser, Tastefully Yours, at the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

Ticket sales from the event go directly towards providing food assistance to the 1 in 8 Virginians who are experiencing the fears and pains of hunger.

News 3's Erin Miller visited the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank's warehouse.

Volunteers said the shelves were bare because donations have been down since before the pandemic.

"The [empty] shelves behind me show exactly why it's important that the food bank needs us," said Billy Milton, Kroger's store leader.

Kroger is the presenting sponsor for Tastefully Yours, which is a premier food-tasting event featuring samplings from over 30 local food establishments, craft beer, wine, live music, mini Vegas, photo booths, and more.

Tickets are $60 before the event and $70 at the door. The foodbank says that every dollar can provide three meals.

"This is the reality so we need to see this we need to talk about it. That's how we fix problems by seeing them and talking about them," said Milton. "One of the most important ways is making sure we're donating to our local food bank, involving our customers and how we operate our business."
