HAMPTON ROADS, Va. — HRT is helping those who need to travel on Feb. 5 by offering free fare on all bus, light rail, ferry and paratransit services.
This is the second year HRT has offered free fare on Transit Equity Day in honor of Rosa Parks.
Rosa Parks is best known as the civil rights leader who did not give up her bus seat to a white passenger in 1955 and was arrested.

This act sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which helped launch nationwide efforts to end segregation of public facilities.
Transit Equity Day one of four free fare days a year offered by the HRT, according to a news release. The other days are Earth Day, Juneteenth and Election Day.
