VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Let’s face it — people love to bag on millennials. Why?
Well, a local millennial filmmaker has some answers and insight in a new web series.
Portsmouth resident and filmmaker Shaquille Jordan feels like his generation is getting a bad rap.
“They say we’re a little lazy," said Jordan, a 31-year-old millennial. “They say we feel a little entitled."
“That all trickles down to us being misunderstood, and that was the reason I created the project," said Jordan.
The project is a web series called The Mad Millennial.
“Just to kind of allow people into our minds and our emotions. Hey, look — you may think of us this way, but this is why we act the way we do," said Jordan.
The series features two main characters, Leteesha and Rashawn, played by local actors Andre Drayton Jr. and Ashley Tennyson.
“I really, really enjoy that she’s motivated in her career. She knows what she wants. She’s very focused. She’s very driven," said Tennyson.
Andre’s character, Rashawn, is an artist in this comedy-drama series about the pair making their way in a world that gives them a hard time.
"It incorporates other generations within the series so people watching it from the outside will see how different situations are handled. They can kind of relate so it bridges the gap between everybody," said Drayton, Jr.
“Maybe the younger generation doesn’t connect with us, and then the older generation is looking at us like we don’t really know what we’re talking about," added Tennyson.
These millennials hope the series will be entertaining and help other generations understand them.
“Maybe we’re lost or too playful, or we don’t take things too seriously — but we do," said Tennyson.
And to give millennials a voice.
The series will debut in November on YouTube.
And after checking it out, you may find that millennials aren’t so bad after all.
In fact, this group of millennials is Positively Hampton Roads.
