NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A Newport News nonprofit is looking for more kids to participate in their youth empowerment program.
The Legacy of HOPE Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps alleviate poverty, hunger, and insecurities by providing free clothing, non-perishable food, personal hygiene, and back-to-school supplies to those in need.
The non-profit started in October 2020 and has distributed over 3,000 resources and served over 300 families in the Hampton Roads area.
The Legacy of HOPE Foundation is YES (Youth, Empowerment, Service) Centered, holding youth empowerment sessions every fourth Saturday to build self-esteem, confidence, courage, and character.
“It’s necessary for the community to be involved in our youth, it's necessary to do our part,” said Director Teresa Lassiter.
The foundation believes empowering our youth is one of the key components that is needed to strengthen families and cause communities to thrive.
“Life is important, life is critical, once a person is gone you can’t bring them back, so we want to place that in their hearts that you need to express love you need to treat people right," said Lassiter.
