NORFOLK, Va. — Foster Smith is a 12-year-old 6th grader who loves to bake.

As one of 12 contestants on the Food Network's Kids Baking Championship: Biz Kids, she takes her skills to the next level.

Ever since she can remember, Foster has always had a love for baking. As she recalls at the mere age of six she was next to her mother helping her to bake goodies.

Foster said that after watching the Kids Baking Championships' earlier seasons, she knew she had to be on the show.

"When I started watching this show, and then so I was like, 'I want to get on there one day, so when I was like eight, I applied and I was like OMG I didn’t make it that year, so I tried again the next year and I didn’t make it that year, and then I tried again the next year and then I made it," said Smith.

During the competition, bakers had the opportunity to learn about new baking techniques as well as how to operate their own businesses.

In 2021, Foster started her first baking job with local home chef, Beth Sokol Meals. From there, she started her own business 'Dessert Before Dinner'.

"I did get a job working for Miss Beth, and so I bake muffins for a while, and then I started making some cupcakes for her and then her customers were like, 'Oh, well I want to custom order from her,' and so it started out with some mini pies, and then it was sugar cookies, then it was cake orders, and then more and more cake orders," said Smith.

As Foster continues to grow with her business and baking skills she looks forward to what the future holds.

"When I get older, I would like to do something in business or politics and retire early, not too early though like at fifty, and then I am going to open a dessert shop and sell all my desserts because it's a dream of mine to have an in-store shop," said Smith.

And now, with her experience on season 11 of the 'Kids Baking Championship' she has skills and memories that will last her a lifetime.
