VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Club Waka has raised $120,000 for the Sentara Brock Cancer Center.

About 200 members from seven cities, including Williamsburg, took part in recent fundraising events, including a charity bowling tournament.

"Come together, exercise, move a bit, connect and meet new people," said Club Waka General Manager Brent Wentworth.

"We do bowling, softball, kickball; we have cornhole leagues and a flag football league," said club member Nikita Susens.

"Today we’re bowling, and I run our kickball league," said Susens.

The club has been raising money for nine years. Club Waka dates to the 1990s, when a few recent college graduates started a kickball league for fun. The group is part of the World Adult Kickball Association — WAKA.

"Club Waka was the first donor to step up to help us reach our goal of $15 million," said Sentara Foundation's David Proffitt.

"Being able to help others and, at the same time, hang out with my friends and bring my community into that process really makes my heart soar," said Susens.

Club Waka is a great way to kick it with friends, meet new people and support the Hampton Roads community.
