NORFOLK, Va. — Student journalists at Granby High in Norfolk are on a mission to find a loving home for 9-year-old Granola.

The Granby students are enjoying a visit from 9-year-old Granola recently, and the pit bull mix is 'eating' up the attention.

Foster mother Britanny Sorrentini agreed to care for the sweet dog after her owners surrendered her to Norfolk Animal Care and Control.

"She’s been incredibly cuddly. She loves children, is tolerant of cats and I’ve really bonded with her. I’m hoping she’ll find a home through this story," Sorrentini said.

Also helping get the word out is the Granby High News team. They fell in love with Granola after seeing a post on social media that she was looking for a home.

"The first thing I can do is promote it on my social media accounts and spread the word to my family and friends," said student Joshua Sharpe-Plummer.

News 3 partnered with the school, donating equipment and helping build its set. Already, the students are using their skills to help the community.

"Not just for Granola, but for other animals that need homes, too," added student Kyon Murray.

These budding journalists are putting their money where their mouths are by covering the $35 adoption fee for this very good dog.

"I’m really hoping we can spread awareness and that someone kind and caring will adopt her," said Murray.

The Granby High News team is already learning that journalists can be good neighbors — even to our furry friends — and they are 'Positively Hampton Roads.'
