NORFOLK, Va. - Get ready to show your stuff, Downtown Norfolk. The MEAC Basketball Tournament has arrived!
Games run from March 10-14, featuring Norfolk State University and the rest of the teams from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference.
Expected to join the teams are thousands of fans from Delaware down to Florida.
It’s a big time. It starts to pick up here during March for the rest of the year so we’re ready. We look at that calendar. Sporting events are always a big thing for us," said Duane Dinio, Owner and Chef for S'mores Amore inside Downtown Norfolk's Selden Market.
The market is filled with the kind of unique shops and food stands tourists like to seek out.
S'mores Amore is known for making specialty s'mores and Dinio says he whipped up a 'Matcha Madness' matcha-flavored s'more to celebrate March Madness.
Businesses on Granby Street are also expecting to see more foot traffic.
Hair of the Dog's Executive Chef, Marche' Gorum, says he's adding more hors d'oeuvres to the menu that are quick to cook up and and quick to eat, but they're also adding dinner items like salmon and crab cakes.
It's all hands on deck.
“[There's] a sense of urgency, paying more attention to detail and having your aces in their places in the kitchen. And being more comfortable with our front of the house, more communication," said Gorum.
