LOS ANGELES - The 92nd Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, aired Sunday evening.
Actors, screenwriters, directors, and more were honored at Sunday's awards at the Dolby Theater.
Janelle Monae kicked off the Academy Awards with a musical tribute to all the nominees.
Monae began her performance with a red sweater like Mister Rogers wore in "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood."
Monae's performance also featured Billy Porter.
Chris Rock and Steve Martin helped opened the awards, joking that they has a "great time not hosting tonight."
This marks the second year without a host.
Brad Pitt won his first acting Oscar for his performance in "Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood," nominated for ten awards.
Pitt played a stunt double for Leonardo DiCaprio.
"Toy Story 4" won an Oscar for best animated feature film.
"Hair Love" won the Academy Award for best animated short film.
Natalie Portman turned heads with her choice of outfit for this year's awards.
Portman wore a cape lined with the names of female filmmakers who weren't nominated for best director.
This year's nominees for best director are all male.
Bong Joon Ho won his first Oscar for best original screenplay for "Parasite." Ho later won the Oscar for best director as well.
"Parasite," also won the international film Academy Award.
Taika Waititi is the winner of the best adapted screenplay Academy Award for “Jojo Rabbit."
The first feature backed by Barack and Michelle Obama's production company, won an Oscar for "American Factory." The film focused on efforts of Chinese company to re-purpose General Motors plant and the cultural tensions that arise.
Eminem made an appearance with his performance of "Lose Yourself," an original song winner from the soundtrack of "8 Mile." This performance was a big deal for the Academy Awards because Enimen did not perform the song in 2003 when he was nominated.
"1917" won an award for best visual effects. The effects brought a frenetic urgency to story.
Hildur Guðnadóttir has won the best original score Academy Award for “Joker,” becoming the first woman to win in the category since 1998.
Joaquin Phoenix won the best actor Academy Award Sunday for his role as a wanna-be comedian destined to become a supervillain in “Joker.”
Renée Zellwegger has won the best actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Judy Garland in the tumultuous final year of her life.
"Parasite," brings the big award home winning best picture, making history as the first foreign language film to win the ceremony's top honor.
