NORFOLK, Va.-- The first of a handful of forums across Virginia took place in Norfolk on Monday with the goal of discussing diversity and inclusion throughout the commonwealth. The effort is called the “strategic plan for diversity and inclusive excellence.”

Governor Ralph Northam, community leaders, and an audience of people came together this evening to learn more about this program.

The purpose is to gather suggestions on how Virginians would like to see diversity and inclusiveness be introduced in government, education, healthcare, and business.

“At the end of the day, it’s all about fairness and leveling the playing field and making sure everybody feels welcomed in Virginia," Northam said.

There will be four more of these workshops, each one on a Monday.

The governor and his team will travel to Chancellorsville next Monday for the next forum.
