HAMPTON ROADS, Va. - Buy a pizza and help feed Peninsula families in need.

On Thursday, May 14, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers locations around the country are participating in an event called 'A Pie for a Pie'.

For every pizza ordered for takeout and delivery, the company will donate a pizza to the local food bank to help feed struggling families.

Mellow Mushroom's Hampton Roads locations in Newport News and Williamsburg will donate pizzas to Virginia Peninsula Foodbank on May 21.

"We have the food and we have the ability to produce the food and we want to make sure people are enjoying it," said Gray Nelson, owner of both locations. "I saw the videos on the news and on Facebook where the lines for Food banks were just going around the block and so I thought this was a great opportunity for us to give back."

Nelson says operating during the pandemic has been a struggle, just as it has for restaurants all over. He's partnering with suppliers and the Mellow Mushroom company make the local 'A Pie for a Pie' event happen.

Currently, Mellow Mushroom is open for takeout and delivery orders from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
