NAVAL STATION NORFOLK, Va. - News 3's Navy Unit of the Month for August 2020 is Air Operations!
Based at Chambers Field at Naval Station Norfolk, Air Ops coordinates nearly 50,000 flights each year. The team has to get flights in and out safely and efficiently.
18 different squadrons call the 8,400 foot long runway home, flying both helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.
In the past year, both President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have also used Chambers Field for brief trips to Naval Station Norfolk and Hampton Roads.
The Secretary of Defense and foreign dignitaries have also flown in and out in the past.
