PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Black Lives Matter 757 held a food giveaway in Portsmouth on Wednesday as we head into the holidays.
The organization went to a couple of neighborhoods including one that experienced a recent shooting on Randolph Street.
They gave out hotdogs and water to anybody in need.
"We need to step up in our community and say hey how can we help and for those who in control say hey come on let's give back to the community. We cannot wait for somebody to step up and help. We gotta do it our selves."
They tell us the main purpose of this event is to find way to reach out to the community of Portsmouth to combat gun violence-- as well as formulate conversations to maintain a safe environment.
