Cat rescued from house fire in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Virginia Beach Fire Department responded to a house fire in the Ocean Lakes area of the city Friday afternoon.

According to firefighters, crews arrived in the 800 block of Sandoval Drive at about 2 p.m. for the fire. First arriving crews found heavy smoke and fire coming from the side of the house.

The occupants were not home at the time of the fire, and firefighters were able to rescue the family's cat, officials said. No injuries were reported.

The fire was marked under control at 2:18 p.m.

The fire's cause is unknown and is being investigated by the Virginia Beach Fire Marshal’s office.
