CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Chesapeake Public Schools is hosting a job fair to fill more than 200 openings.

Both Chesapeake and Virginia Beach Public Schools are advertising vacancies. Virginia Beach says it is seeing more retirements and resignations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chesapeake job fair is specifically for non-instructional jobs like bus drivers, custodians, lunch room monitors and nutritional services staff.

“We are able to cover the buildings we have open currently. As we always do in human resources, we're always preparing to have a substitute pool. We're constantly hiring and recruiting, said Dr. Karen Cooper-Collins, Human Resources Administrator for Chesapeake Public Schools.

Both school districts have part-time and full-time openings.

Dr. Cooper-Collins said Chesapeake schools will cover onboarding costs like fees for a background check and a physical.

Applicants can fill out paperwork on-site and should bring their driver’s license as well as contact information for three references.

The job fair will be held Tuesday, November 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cuffee Library located at 2726 Border Road, Chesapeake, Va. 23324.

Those looking for teaching positions in Chesapeake are asked to call the school district or go online to cpschools.com. Virginia Beach applicants can go through vbschools.com.
