CHESAPEAKE, Va. - Healthy Chesapeake Inc., along with their community partners, Disappearing Deserts and Big Ugly Brewing, have launched a virtual farmers market.

Healthy Chesapeake’s Food Connection creates a platform for growers, food artisans, and consumers of local foods to connect online.

Customers can place orders at this link Tuesday through Saturday for drive through pickup at Big Ugly Brewing on Tuesdays from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., located at 845 S Battlefield Blvd.

The Market(s) plans to explore adding additional distribution points to increase access to healthy food options in areas with low food access, such as known food deserts and food swamps.

Participation is open to regional Virginia growers and harvesters. The Market strives to be a producers-only market. Vendors must participate in production of the product they sell.

Disappearing Deserts is an online market manager for Food Connection and offers Farmers Markets technical support for food access incentives.

Big Ugly Brewing is a local family owned and operated business, first opened in Southern Chesapeake in 2015.

Healthy Chesapeake Inc. is the population health arm of the Chesapeake Health Department.
