NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Newport News Police Department, along with the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hilton hosted a comedy night fundraiser Tuesday in honor of fallen Officer Katie Thyne.

Cozzy's Comedy Club and Tavern was filled with food, drinks and most importantly, laughs. One comedian who spoke to News 3 says that sometimes the best cure for pain is laughter.

“We cry, we weep, we moan, but sometimes we need to laugh. We need to laugh to remember that there was a life there, and Katie was a person that’s full of life and was a wonderful person and you need to laugh. It’s a great way to purge,” said comedian Charlie Wiener.

If you missed the jokes Tuesday night, there is another show Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Cozzy's. Wiener will be featured during the show.

The comedy shows will raise money for Thyne, who tragically died from her injuries after being dragged during a traffic stop on January 23.
