The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.
According to their website, there are now 156,649 total cases, 147,928 of which are confirmed and 8,721 are probable. There are 3,344 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,110 being confirmed and 234 being probable.
The case numbers are up by 1,114, and deaths are up by 16 since Thursday. There were 4 deaths reported in 3 of our local areas: Chesapeake, Southampton and Virginia Beach. There were 146 local cases which made up about 13% of the state's total update.
A total of 2,219,510 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. As of Friday, the 7-day average for percent positivity in the state is sitting is at 4.8%. Many health districts in Hampton Roads are reporting at 5% or lower in test positivity rate, including: the Peninsula Health District, Eastern Shore District, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach.
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Friday, there are 651 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 312 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 963 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 30 more hospitalizations from Thursday.
The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 11,447.
205 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.
87 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 591 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,680 in the state - that's 22% usage.
18,336 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
