Chesapeake to host free COVID-19 testing event at Cuffee Community Center

CHESAPEAKE, Va.- Chesapeake organizations have come together to host a free COVID-19 testing site on Friday.

The free COVID-19 testing event will take place at the Cuffee Community Center located at 2019 Windy Road on Friday from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m.

Chesapeake Regional Healthcare, the Urban League of Hampton Roads, the Virginia Office Of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Chesapeake Health Department, Buffalow Family & Friends, the South Norfolk community of churches and the Chesapeake Redevelopment and Housing Authority partnered together for this event.

The event will provide nasal-swab tests for up to 400 participants. Those who are symptom-free are encouraged to test. Results will be delivered confidentially in approximately 48 hours.

Participants will receive food boxes, hand sanitizer, face masks, and other items at the testing event.

Tests and supplies will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis. Participants are encouraged to be patient and practice social distancing.

Ph.D Janice Underwood, Chief Diversity Officer for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the COVID-19 Equity Task Force arranged for 20,000 masks and 20,000 bottles of hand sanitizer to be donated to the city.
