Hampton Roads area makes up 34% of daily Virginia COVID-19 case rise; Norfolk sees the highest growth since Tuesday

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 95,049 total cases, 91,473 of which are confirmed and 3,576 are probable. There are 2,274 total coronavirus related deaths, with 2,164 being confirmed and 110 being probable. The case numbers are up by 798, and deaths are up by 30 since Tuesday.

A total of 1,176,180 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Wednesday, there are 881 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 423 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,304 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 49 more hospitalizations from Tuesday.

283 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

144 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 647 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,074 in the state - that's 21% usage.

12,522 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

Here's the breakdown of confirmed cases in local areas which made up about 34% of the new daily cases in Virginia:

  • Chesapeake 2,714 cases, 221 hospitalized, 33 deaths (+25 cases, +4 hospitalization, +3 deaths from Tuesday)
  • Accomack 1,085 cases, 79 hospitalized, 15 deaths (+3 cases, +1 hospitalization from Tuesday)
  • Northampton 295 cases, 48 hospitalized, 29 deaths (+0 cases from Tuesday)
  • Hampton 1,129 cases, 49 hospitalized, 7 deaths (+26 cases from Tuesday)
  • Norfolk 3,493 cases, 179 hospitalized, 28 deaths (+68 cases, +1 hospitalization, +2 deaths from Tuesday)
  • James City County 573 cases, 59 hospitalized, 16 deaths (+1 case from Tuesday)
  • Newport News 1,734 cases, 78 hospitalized, 18 deaths (+17 cases from Tuesday)
  • Poquoson 41 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths (+1 case from Tuesday)
  • Williamsburg 119 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths (+2 cases from Tuesday)
  • York County 335 cases, 14 hospitalized, 4 deaths (+5 cases, +1 death from Tuesday)
  • Portsmouth 1,663 cases, 131 hospitalized, 25 deaths (+32 cases, +2 hospitalizations, +1 death from Tuesday)
  • Gloucester 147 cases, 13 hospitalized, 2 deaths (+0 cases from Tuesday)
  • Virginia Beach 4,583 cases, 219 hospitalized, 49 deaths (+54 cases, +4 hospitalizations from Tuesday)
