Hampton Roads reports 18.8% of Virginia's daily COVID-19 case increase; Deaths reported in Accomack, Hampton, Norfolk

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 117,592 total cases, 112,446 of which are confirmed and 5,146 are probable. There are 2,550 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,417 being confirmed and 133 being probable.

The case numbers are up by 1,013, hospitalizations are up by 69 and deaths are up by 23 since Thursday.

Locally, our Virginia viewing area saw 191 cases, 19 hospitalizations and 5 deaths from Thursday's total update. Our area made up 18.8% of Virginia's total case increase and deaths were seen in Accomack, Hampton and Norfolk.

A total of 1,539,290 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia. Virginia's COVID-19 percent positivity rate sits at 6.8% and in our local area, the rate seems to be remaining steady with little increase or decrease.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Friday, there are 813 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 288 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,101 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 73 fewer hospitalizations from Thursday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 9,460.

261 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

136 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 604 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,100 in the state - that's 19% usage.

14,866 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
