The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services released their daily update involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

As of Saturday, there are now 165,076 cases, 965 people hospitalized and 2,683 COVID-19 related deaths.

That is 2,585 new cases, 5 fewer hospitalizations and 31 additional deaths from Friday.

A total of 2,182,891 total COVID-19 tests have been completed in North Carolina.

Health officials say the spike in cases is due to 1,000 positive tests from dates in the first half of the month that were reported to NCDHHS by LabCorp in the past 24 hours. The departments says they are working with LabCorp to understand the cause of the delayed reporting; however, LabCorp confirmed that individuals were not delayed in receiving their results.
