The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.
According to their website, there are now 120,594 total cases, 115,334 of which are confirmed and 5,260 are probable. There are 2,580 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 2,447 being confirmed and 133 being probable.
The case numbers are up by 847, and deaths are up by 11 since Sunday. Locally, our viewing area reported deaths in Suffolk, York and Newport News. There were also 3 new hospitalizations reported in our area, all in Chesapeake, whose district now leads the area in COVID-19 test percent positivity rate. Our area's 163 case increase made up 19% of Virginia's total case increase of 847.
A total of 1,581,291 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.
Most of our viewing area is continuing to see a downward trend in test positivity rate. For several weeks, the Western Tidewater region reported the highest positivity rate in the local area. Both Portsmouth and Western Tidewater saw rates above 12% last week. As of this week, Western Tidewater is reporting a rate of 11.8% and Portsmouth is sitting at 10.6%. The Chesapeake Health District is now reporting the highest percent positivity rate at 12.2%.
The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Monday, there are 764 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 318 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,080 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 10 less hospitalizations from Sunday.
The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 9,569. That's 14 more patients counted for from Sunday.
257 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.
146 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 600 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,092 in the state - that's 19% usage.
15,085 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.
