Virginia coronavirus cases rise by 677 in a day as patients discharged from hospitals nears 8k

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving coronavirus cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 61,247 total cases, 58,611 of which are confirmed and 2,636 are probable. There are 1,724 total coronavirus related deaths, with 1,620 being confirmed and 104 being probable. The case numbers are up by 677, and deaths are up by 24 since Friday.

A total of 615,290 PCR testing encounters have now happened in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Saturday, there are 535 people currently being hospitalized for coronavirus. There are 284 people currently receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are pending. 234 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

103 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 582 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 3,022 in the state - that's 19% usage.

7,968 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

  • Norfolk 842 cases, 101 hospitalized, 9 deaths
  • James City County 252 cases, 58 hospitalized, 15 deaths
  • Newport News 490 cases, 44 hospitalized, 10 deaths
  • Poquoson 19 cases, 2 hospitalized, 0 deaths
  • Williamsburg 55 cases, 12 hospitalized, 6 deaths
  • York County 110 cases, 10 hospitalized, 3 deaths
  • Portsmouth 455 cases, 68 hospitalized, 16 deaths
  • Gloucester 44 cases, 9 hospitalized, 1 deaths
  • Virginia Beach 1,092 cases, 118 hospitalized, 29 deaths
