RICHMOND, Va.The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) launched a COVID-19 Outbreaks in Virginia Higher Education dashboard, that reports confirmed outbreaks at public and private colleges and universities since August 1, 2020.

This dashboard is a statewide effort to help spread awareness of the increase in COVID-19 cases at colleges and universities.

VDH local health departments will strictly report numbers based on confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks they've investigated.

A confirmed COVID-19 outbreak means that there were two or more confirmed COVID-19 cases associated with a particular setting.

VDH is partnering with Virginia colleges and universities to monitor these outbreaks, and there will be separate websites hosted by these schools that will display the number COVID-19 cases reported at their institutions, www.covid19.va.education. VDH is not responsible for the collection of the data presented or the maintenance of this website hosted by colleges and universities.

For clarification, VDH will present only outbreak-associated COVID-19 cases and deaths on the COVID-19 Outbreaks in Virginia Higher Education dashboard. It will not include the total number of cases at the college or university.

Some schools may use different methods than VDH to obtain case numbers. Therefore, it is not expected that the numbers on the VDH dashboard and numbers reported from individual colleges and universities' websites will match.

If you have questions about the data on the separate website hosted by the colleges and universities, please direct those inquiries to the specific college or university.
