Virginia reports 1,594 new COVID-19 cases; Virginia Beach, Chesapeake report highest local case increases

The Virginia Department of Health released their daily updated numbers involving COVID-19 cases within the state.

According to their website, there are now 196,506 total cases, 179,686 of which are confirmed and 16,820 are probable. There are 3,741 total COVID-19 related deaths, with 3,474 being confirmed and 267 being probable. The case numbers are up by 1,594, and deaths are up by 15 since Tuesday.

A total of 2,841,807 COVID-19 PCR tests have now been given in Virginia.

The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association also updated their numbers. As of Wednesday there are 903 people currently being hospitalized, confirmed with COVID-19. There are 362 people receiving inpatient hospital care whose test results are still pending. Combined, there are a total of 1,265 being hospitalized for coronavirus related illness. That's 91 more hospitalizations from Tuesday.

The total statewide COVID-19 hospitalizations that have been reported over time is now 13,273.

250 confirmed positive patients, and those whose test results are pending, are currently hospitalized in the ICU.

106 hospital patients, both confirmed for coronavirus, and those with test results pending, are currently on a ventilator. 806 ventilators are being used in hospitals out of the 2,938 in the state - that's 27% usage.

21,863 patients who have been hospitalized for coronavirus have been discharged.

Virginia Beach and Chesapeake saw Wednesday's highest local case increases. Hampton Roads and surrounding areas made up about 12% of the daily Virginia case increase from Tuesday.
