WASHINGTON - The Department of Defense Secretary announced new measures that all service members and families along with anyone on DoD property, must wear a face covering when they can't maintain social distancing in public areas.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper released a statement regarding the new guidelines set in place for all military personnel and employees.

According to the statement, all individuals on DoD property, installations, and facilities will wear cloth face coverings when they cannot maintain six feet of social distance in public areas or work centers. This does not include in a service member's home.

The order is effective immediately.

This order follows the White House and the CDC's recent guidance on wearing face coverings.
