Reports say the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles website was shut down for several days.

This raised a lot of questions for those who needed to use this website to renew their license and for other usages.

In a tweet sent out on March 2, the Virginia Information Technologies Agency said that they were aware of the issue causing 'system slowness'.

An official with VITA said they are working closely with DMV to address recent issues with constituent services such as license issuing. In lockstep with DMV, VITA regards providing reliable and effective citizen-facing services as a critical business function.

DMV and VITA engineers say they are continuing to troubleshoot and address the underlying causes with their service tower suppliers. They plan on implementing some immediate infrastructure upgrades which should 'improve the citizen experience'.

Reports say the upgrades are in the final planning stages with the suppliers, and are expected to be implemented as soon as possible.
